What could be more joyous than the gathering of

family and friends to celebrate the life of a baby?

I have dozens of ceremonies, but the following is a favorite:

The Christening of

Dresden Allen

October 19, 2013

Welcome!  Let us first just look around...friends, family ... so much love!  This is a very special day for all of us.  We celebrate the life of Dresden Allen Gallegos.

First, I would like to share some special touches and connections in this ceremony.  Dresden is wearing the Christening gown that his grandpa, Rick wore.  Also his cousin, Lily.  The water we will use for the Christening was collected (and there is a story here --- involving a fully clothed-very wet uncle!) from Windansea Beach in La Jolla by Jaime's uncle Jim who also is her godfather.

Let us also remember and welcome the presence of those who have departed this earth, but who we know are here today with us in spirit.

What you are all about to witness here today is truly a celebration of love, and of life! As Dresden is here today, he is new and perfect, with no need of fixing nor cleansing. Dresden is a gift. His smile, his laughter, and his presence enrich the lives of all who know him.  Let us rejoice in the many ways he has made our lives richer, more wonderful

This child is our future and represents the light of the world. Jaime and Ronnie have honored all of you today by inviting you to not only witness this beautiful welcoming ceremony, but most importantly, to participate in the blessing of this child.

Invocation

In every birth, blessed is the wonder.
In every creation, blessed is the new beginning.
In every child, blessed is life.
In every hope, blessed is the potential.
In every transition, blessed is the beginning.
In every existence, blessed are the possibilities.
In every love, blessed are the tears.
In every life, blessed is the love.

Today we simply give thanks and celebrate all the many wonderful blessings Dresden brings and do our best to remember, and be thankful for, the very special role that we all have in his life.

Charge To Parents

Ronnie and Jaime, Dresden has honored you by choosing you as his parents. Therefore, honor him and remember that Dresden is his own being with his own thoughts and feelings.  He is a child of the universe and has been given many gifts from the Divine so that he can light the way for the future. Therefore, it is important for you to support him and protect him, so that his gifts may blossom and he can make this world better than it was before.

Parental Promise

Ronnie and Jaime, will you promise to love, nurture, and support Dresden, and to create a healthy environment so that he may grow and flourish on his specific path? If so, please answer “We will.”

Parents: We will

Charge To Godparents

It is often mistakenly thought that the Godparents are the ones who shall raise a child in the event that the parents cannot. But this is not so. Godparents are those who promise they will be there to help the child grow spiritually. Theirs is a place in Dresden’s life almost like guardian angels. The promise is one of a physical presence in his life as people who he knows will always be standing quietly behind him, encouraging him to make good choices, and sharing with him the lessons they themselves have learned along the way.

Alicia and Ryan, will you please come forward.

While you are not Dresden’s parents, the place that you have both taken in his life is an
important one. Jaime and Ronnie trust your motivations and your judgment completely and they take comfort in knowing that although there will be times when Dresden cannot come to them, that he will always be able to come to you for guidance and support. By accepting the role of Godparent you say to Dresden and the world: I promise, I will be there for you as you grow into adulthood. With this in mind I now ask you...

Godparents Vows

Will you as best as you can, help take care of Dresden?
Will you do your best to protect him from harm?
Will you encourage, guide and support him in all his endeavors,
help him recognize the beauty within himself and all things
and to become someday not the man we wish for him but the realization of his own hopes, dreams and the fulfillment of his soul?

Godparents: “We will.”

May you always know how special you are to Ronnie and Jaime -- that they would ask you to tend to one of the most precious thing that they have in this world.

And all of you gathered here with us today, will you hold this family together in spirit with your love and in your prayers?

Answer:  "We will!"

Christening Of Name:

What name have you chosen for your child?

Ronnie : We have chosen the name Dresden

Jaime:  We have also chosen the name Allen, in honor of my father who shares that middle name.                                                "

The Blessing Of The Child

(I will pour the water into the bowl and come to Dresden.)

I will dip my fingers into the water and dab it on Dresden's forehead, saying:

Dresden.  Know that your spirit is strong and it will guide you through this life.  Know that you are connected and protected.  Know that you are deeply loved and that your presence brings overwhelming joy.

Irish Blessing Prayer
Ryan:

May you always have
A sunbeam to warm you
Good luck to charm you
And a sheltering angel
So nothing can harm you
Laughter to cheer you
Faithful friends near you
And whenever you pray
Heaven to hear you.

Alicia:

May God give you
For every storm a rainbow
For every tear a smile
For every care a promise
And a blessing in each trial
For every problem life sends
A faithful friend to share
For every sigh a sweet song
And an answer for each prayer

Final Blessing

I congratulate Ronnie and Jaime on the birth of their baby, and the Godparents, Alicia and Ryan on their willingness to share with them the care and concern for the welfare of Dresden.

May his life be filled with the good things of life, and in particular with the love and laughter of those who make up his world.

Dresden, with abiding confidence and affection, we send you forth on your journey of life. May you be filled with thanks and wonder, humor and fun, hope and perseverance so that you may grow in wisdom and grace.
